గ్రేటర్ హైదరాబాద్ మున్సిపల్ ఎన్నికల నేపథ్యంలో నెల రోజుల నుంచే నగరంలోని హోర్డింగ్స్ అన్నింటినీ కబ్జా చేసిన అధికార టీఆర్ఎస్ పార్టీ… కొద్ది రోజుల క్రితమే మెట్రో రైల్ పిల్లర్లను కూడా తమ ప్రచారానికి వాడుకుంటున్న సంగతి తెలిసిందే. మొత్తం వెయ్యి పిల్లర్లపై టీఆర్ఎస్ ఫ్లెక్సీలు నగరం మొత్తం దర్శనమిస్తున్నాయి. అయితే మెట్రో రైల్, ఎల్ అండ్ టి తీరుపై విపక్షాలు తీవ్రస్థాయిలో భగ్గుమంటున్నాయి. తాము కొన్ని పిల్లర్ల తమ ఫ్లెక్సీలు పెట్టుకోవడానికి అనుమతి ఇవ్వాలని ఎన్ని సార్లు మెట్రో రైల్, ఎల్ అండ్ టి అధికారులను కోరినా స్పందించలేదని… అలాంటి టీఆర్ఎస్ కు ఏకంగా వెయ్యి పిల్లర్లలో ఫ్లెక్సీలు ఏర్పాటు చేసుకునే అవకాశం ఎలా కల్పిస్తారని కాంగ్రెస్ ముఖ్యనేత మల్లు భట్టి విక్రమార్క ప్రశ్నించారు. బీజేపీ, టీడీపీ నేతలు సైతం మెట్రో రైల్, ఎల్ అండ్ టి అధికారుల తీరును తీవ్రంగా తప్పుబట్టారు. అసలు ఇందుకోసం వారి ఎంత తీసుకున్నారనే విషయాన్ని పక్కనపెట్టాలని డిమాండ్ చేశారు. మరికొందరు నేతలైతే… మెట్రో రైల్, ఎల్ అండ్ టి సంస్థ టీఆర్ఎస్ కు ఫ్రీ పబ్లిసిటీ ఇచ్చి అదనపు ప్రయోజనాలను పొందేందుకు ప్రయత్నాలు చేస్తోందని ఆరోపించారు. అయితే దీనిపై స్పందించిన మెట్రో రైల్, ఎల్ అండ్ టి ఉన్నతాధికారులు… తమను ఈ విషయంలో టీఆర్ఎస్ కంటే ముందు ఎవరూ సంప్రదించలేదని చెప్పుకొచ్చారు. మరోవైపు పిల్లర్లపై ఫ్లెక్సీలు పెట్టుకోవడానికి మెట్రో రైల్, ఎల్ అండ్ టి సంస్థకు టీఆర్ఎస్ ఎంత చెల్లించిందనే విషయాన్ని తాము చెప్పలేమంటూ పరోక్షంగా టీఆర్ఎస్ కు సహకరించినట్టుగా వ్యాఖ్యానించారు. మొత్తానికి… జీహెచ్ఎంసీ ఎన్నికల్లో మెట్రో రైల్, ఎల్ అండ్ టి గులాబీ పార్టీ ఫ్రీ పబ్లిసిటీ ఇచ్చినట్టే కనిపిస్తోంది.

ఏపీలో కేసీఆర్‌ను కీర్తిస్తూ ఫ్లెక్సీలు

ఆంధ్ర‌ప్రదేశ్‌లో తెలంగాణ ముఖ్యమంత్రి కల్వకుంట్ల చంద్రశేఖరరావును కీర్తిస్తూ ఫ్లెక్సీలు ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. ఈ సంఘ‌ట‌న తూర్పుగోదావరి జిల్లాలోని వై.రామవరంలో చోటు చేసుకుంది. జిల్లాలోని మండ‌ల కాంట్రాక్టు ఉద్యోగుల సంఘం ఆధ్వ‌ర్యంలో ఈ ఫ్లెక్సీని ఏర్పాటు చేశారు. ఆ ఫ్లెక్సీలో ఏమ‌ని రాసి ఉందంటే.. ‘తెలంగాణ రాష్ట్ర ప్రభుత్వ కాంట్రాక్టు ఉద్యోగుల చీకటి జీవితాలకు వెలుగును ప్రసాదించిన ముఖ్యమంత్రివర్యులు’ అంటూ కేసీఆర్ కు ‘శతకోటి అభివందనములు’ అని కేసీఆర్‌ను కీర్తిస్తూ ఈ ఫ్లెక్సీలో రాశారు. గ్రేట‌ర్ ఎన్నికల నేపథ్యంలో అధికార పార్టీ టీఆర్ఎస్ ఫ్లెక్సీలతో భాగ్యనగర్‌ను పింక్ సిటీగా మార్చేసింద‌ని మీడియా ఇటీవల ఆసక్తికర కథనాలు రాసింది. అంత‌కంటే ఎక్కువగా తూర్పుగోదావ‌రి జిల్లాలోని ఫ్లెక్సీనే హాట్ టాపిక్ అయింది.

‘కాంట్రాక్టు ఉద్యోగులను క్రమబద్ధీకరిస్తూ సీఎం కేసీఆర్ తీసుకున్న నిర్ణయంతో సర్వత్రా హర్షం వ్యక్తమవుతోంది. గత పాలకులకు కనువిప్పు కలిగేలా ఉద్యోగులందరినీ దశల వారీగా క్రమబద్ధీకరిస్తామని సీఎం కేసీఆర్ తీసుకున్న నిర్ణయంతో వేలాది మంది కాంట్రాక్టు ఉద్యోగులు లబ్ధి పొందనున్నారు. అయితే ఈ ఫ్లెక్సీలు ఏపీ సీఎం చంద్రబాబును అవమానించినట్లుగానే ఉన్నాయని వాటిని తొలగించాలని స్థానిక టీడీపీ నేతలు పంచాయతీ కార్యదర్శిని ఆదేశించినట్లుగా సమాచారం .

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today called Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi "a kid", as both AAP and Congress tried to use the Shakru Basti demolition drive to target theNarendra Modi government at the Centre.

"Rahul Gandhi is a kid. Congress has not told him that Railways comes under Centre," Kejriwal said in a tweet moments after Rahul questioned AAP's protest over the Shakur Basti anti-encroachment drive in which a six-month-old child allegedly died.

"Why is Aam Aadmi Party protesting. They are in government. I will be going to Shakur Basti," Rahul Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament.

Parties like AAP, JD-U and TMC raised the issue of Shakur Basti demolition drive, in which hundreds of homes were razed rendering many people homeless, in both houses of Parliament today. While AAP members led by MP Bhagwant Mann and TMC leaders protested outside Parliament, slonaganeering by opposition parties in Rajya Sabha duringSushma Swaraj's crucial statement over India-Pakistan talks stalled proceedings in the Upper House today.

"I am the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi. I am not scared of anyone. I am not disturbed." Gandhi told reporters after a meeting of the strategy committee of Congress party in Parliament. 



“I am the daughter-in-law of Indira Gandhi. I am not scared of anyone,” a combative Congress President Sonia Gandhi asserted on Tuesday, invoking the legacy of the late Prime Minister in the wake of the National Herald case. 

She was asked about the Delhi High Court rejecting their pleas for quashing the summons by a Delhi court against them in the National Herald case. Her remarks came as the metropolitan magistrate’s court earlier in the day allowed her exemption plea as well as that of Rahul Gandhi and others for the day. The court, however, directed them to appear in person on December 19. 

The National Herald case had its echo in Parliament with Congress members staging protest in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha over what they described as “political vendetta”. They, however, did not specifically mention the National Herald case in their protests in either of the House. Suspected US-led coalition air strikes have killed at least 26 civilians in a Syrian village, piling pressure on the alliance after allegations another bombing raid left regime soldiers dead. The coalition has been bombarding the Islamic State group for more than a year in Syria and neighbouring Iraq, where the jihadists have declared a self-styled caliphate. But according to a monitoring group, strikes on Monday on the village of Al-Khan in northeastern Syria only left civilians dead. 

PM Modi launches gold monetization scheme

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday launched three incentives to monetize gold that is lying idle and make it part of the banking system. 

Indians have gold worth over $800 billion, in family lockers and in temples.

"India has 20,000 tonnes of idle gold and that is why we are poor," PM Modi said, at an event to launch the schemes. "India has surpassed China as the world's largest gold-consuming nation with 562 tonnes of buying so far this year," he added.


As part of the schemes launched today, banks will collect gold for up to 15 years to auction them off or to lend to jewellers from time to time. They will pay 2.25-2.50 percent interest a year, higher than previous rates of around 1 percent.

The Prime Minister said that women are key to the success of these schemes. "Women in India don't have anything in their name but gold. It's a matter of their strength. The reason behind the success of these schemes will be the women of India," he added.

India imported an estimated $34 billion worth gold in 2014-15. These imports account for the country's $190 billion current account deficit, prompting the government to hike its duty on imports to a record 10 percent.

"It's essential to discourage gold imports," said finance minister Arun Jaitley, who also spoke at the event. "Gold is a security, it gives you earning and now on it is going to be a part of our nation-building," the minister added.

Previous attempts at mobilising gold have been unsuccessful, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi is hoping higher interest rates will help the schemes succeed this time.

"The government wants to reduce the reliance on gold imports over time," a finance ministry official said.

9 Cong MLAs in Assam to join BJP

GUWAHATI: The Congress in Assam plunged into a deep crisis after nine of its MLAs have been cleared by the BJP national leadership for joining the party. Assam BJP president Siddhartha Bhattacharya announced here on Thursday that the nine Congress MLAs will join BJP on Friday.

These rebel Congress members have been carrying on with dissident activities under the leadership of former Congress minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who had joined the saffron party earlier.

Four of these MLAs have already been suspended by the Congress for showing their support to Sarma when he joined BJP. The other five have not been suspended but issued show-cause notices for their anti-party activities when the joined BJP supporters in welcoming Sarma at the airport.

These nine Congress MLAs had met BJP national president Amit Shah in New Delhi on September 5 after which they announced their decision to quit Congress.

The nine Congress MLAs are Bolin Chetia (Sadiya), Pradan Barua (Jonai), Pallab Lochan Das (Behali), Rajen Borthakur (Tezpur), Pijush Hazarika (Roha), Kripanath Mallah (Ratabari), Abu Taher Bepari (Golakganj), Binanda Saikia (Sipajhar) and Jayanta Mallah Barua (Nalbari).

Assam BJP spokesman Rupam Goswami said, "Nine Congress MLAs are joining our party tomorrow and we welcome anyone how wants to join our party. The popularity of BJP in Assam is increasing at a fast pace and the popular belief here is that BJP will win the 2016 assembly election. This belief has led several leaders of various political parties to join BJP."

With these nine MLAs following Sarma, the Congress strength in the assembly stands reduced to 69, which is still more than half way mark of 63 in the house of 126 members.

State Congress general secretary (administration) Diganta Choudhury said, "This was expected long back. This is a stale news for the people of Assam." AICC general secretary and in-charge of the state CP Joshi had earlier described the deserters as "ambitious" people.

SRINAGAR:  Security has been tightened across Kashmir four days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit during which he is scheduled to address a public rally in Srinagar.

The venue for the Prime Minister's rally -- Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium -- has been turned into a virtual fortress with a large posse of police and paramilitary personnel deployed in and around the area to secure it, a police official said.

He said anti-sabotage checks are being carried out within the stadium as well as in the surrounding areas to ensure fool proof security for the high profile visit of the Prime Minister later this week.

PM Modi is scheduled to address a public rally in Srinagar on November 7, besides inaugurating the 450-megawatt Baglihar Phase II power project in Ramban district of the state.

The security forces have also started carrying out frisking of vehicles entering the city from other districts in order to foil any attempts to bring in arms or explosives ahead of the visit, the official said.

He said the security around the venue of the rally will be intensified over the next three days. "Sharpshooters will be deployed atop high rise buildings around the stadium while the intelligence sleuths are keeping an eye on suspicious persons," he added.

As the separatist groups have called for a parallel rally to that of the Prime Minister at Tourist Reception Centre ground -- stone's throw from cricket stadium, the authorities have carried out a crackdown on them to foil their plans.

Several of the top separatist leaders have been taken into preventive detention while some leaders including Syed Ali Shah Geelani have been placed under house arrest.
